Journal Editor
As Journal Editor you are involved with processing the papers submitted to one or more journals assigned to you. You have full control over your journals, Editorial Board members and submissions to your journals. For a detailed description of your role, please see the JAMS handbook. As Handling Editor your tasks include processing manuscripts which have been assigned to you by the responsible Journal Editor. You have access to the editing and review process. A user has forgotten their password
If a user has already registered an account, but forgotten their password, click on the link below the login boxes that says “forgotten your password?”. Then enter your email address to follow the steps mentioned in the message and reset your password. If they don't receive the email, contact JAMS staff.
How can I upload new version of a submitted manuscript?
You can upload a different version of a manuscript on behalf of the authors. Click on the manuscript-ID and then on “Upload Manuscript”.
If you click on the pen symbol, JAMS will take you to the submission form, where you can update other details such as the title and author names.
I am having issues downloading a manuscript – what do I do?
Please contact JAMS staff to check if the problem is software-related. Otherwise, contact the authors for the correct version of the paper. You can find their email address by clicking on the manuscript ID and going to the article processing page. The corresponding author is underlined. By clicking on the envelope in the the manuscript section of the header, you can email all authors.
Go to your personal menu ('Journal Editor’ or 'Handling Editor'). From here, you will be able to access all journals/ manuscripts assigned to you. Click on the manuscript-ID and on “Display Manuscript Log” to find and download the latest version of the paper. Scroll down to see previous manuscript versions and any previous editorial decisions, along with comments from reviewers and author responses. By selecting different versions, you can see where specific changes were made and who uploaded which version. The "Upload Manuscript" Link, furthermore, allows you to upload a new version of any of the manuscript files at any time.
I need to communicate with the authors...
If you click on the manuscript-ID, you will be provided with the authors’ email addresses. The corresponding author will be underlined. Click on the letter-icon to write to all authors.
How many review reports do I need?
This depends on the journal policy. Usually, the minimum is one or two review reports, however within the software you will be able to continue after receiving one valid report.
Yes, but only as Journal Editor. You might need to do this for Editorials, Corrections, and other article types that do not need review. You can bypass peer review and proceed directly to author revision by clicking the specific manuscript ID, scrolling to the bottom and clicking the blue box “Bypass Review and Proceed”. You can also reverse this step by scrolling to the bottom and clicking the blue box “Reset to under Review”.
Do Editorial Board members need to register with JAMS?
Editorial Board members do not necessarily need an account to be assigned a role and invited, but once they want to undertake an activity, they are required to register an account on JAMS.
Do Reviewers need to register with JAMS?
No, reviewers can complete their reports without registering. However, by registering they can access information about pending and previously completed review reports and requests.
Once the academic editor has reached a decision, the respective section in the manuscript page (Journal Editor Menu - Manuscript-ID - Editorial Decision) will show a box saying "The editor made a decision. Please find it here". Click on "here" and you can either submit the decision by clicking "submit" or modify it yourself by clicking "cancel" and adding your own evaluation.
Can I create my own email templates?
Email templates are available to all journals using the platform, however contact the JAMS team if you have a suggestion for a new template or a
What do I have to do once a paper is ready for production?
If the paper is ready for production, press "Submit" and proceed to the English form, then upload the files required for English Editing and pass on to the production team (JAMS staff).
What do Super Users do? Can I become a Super User?
The Super User role is reserved for JAMS staff. We take care of Copy Editing and Language Editing as well as conversion of the papers. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.
Do I have control over when exactly a paper is published?
Before we put a paper online, we will ask the Journal Editor for a last check. If you have any questions regarding publication, please contact your publisher or JAMS staff.
